Setting Your Language
Where to Configure
- Open your FOMOchat in edit mode
- Go to the Knowledge step
- Find the Language dropdown
- Select your target language
- Save changes
When to Set Language
Set the language before generating participants and conversations. The language setting affects all AI-generated content from that point forward.
What Language Affects
Participant Names
AI generates culturally appropriate names:
- English: John, Sarah, Michael
- Japanese: 田中, 鈴木, 佐藤
- Spanish: Carlos, María, Alejandro
- Arabic: محمد, فاطمة, أحمد
Conversation Content
All generated messages use the selected language:
- Product discussions
- Questions and answers
- Social proof comments
- Call-to-action suggestions
AI Rep Responses
When visitors interact, the AI Rep responds in the configured language:
- Answers to questions
- Follow-up prompts
- Email collection requests
Tone and Style
Language affects more than words—it adapts:
- Cultural communication styles
- Formality levels
- Common expressions
Best Practices
1. Match Your Audience
Set the language to match your website visitors:
- German site → German FOMOchat
- Latin America targeting → Spanish FOMOchat
- Japan market → Japanese FOMOchat
2. Provide Context in Target Language
For best results with non-English languages:
- Write your Additional Context in the target language
- Provide video transcripts in the target language
- This helps the AI generate more natural, fluent content
3. Review Generated Content
While FOMOchat generates high-quality multilingual content, we recommend:
- Having a native speaker review important conversations
- Checking cultural appropriateness of names and expressions
- Adjusting any awkward phrasings
4. Consider Mixed Audiences
If your site serves multiple language audiences:
- Create separate FOMOchats for each language
- Use visibility rules to show the right chat based on URL (e.g., /de/, /es/)
- Or detect browser language via JavaScript and load appropriate widget
Language Limitations
What Language Does NOT Affect
- Widget UI labels (controlled by widget settings)
- Embed code and technical elements
- Analytics and dashboard (always in English)
Mixed Language Scenarios
If your website is in one language but you want chat in another:
- Set the FOMOchat language to match your desired chat language
- Provide Additional Context in the chat language
- The AI will prioritize the FOMOchat language setting
Switching Languages
To change an existing FOMOchat's language:
- Go to Knowledge step
- Change the language dropdown
- Regenerate participants — Names need to match the new language
- Regenerate conversation — Messages need to be in the new language
⚠️ Note: Changing language requires regenerating content. Existing edited messages won't auto-translate.
